I remember belting out "It's Raining Men" in the shower, and my brothers pounding on the bathroom door, telling me to shut up.

And, continuing to sing, scream, and belt out those fab lyrics even louder.

This is a song of joy, of dizzy liberation and taking control of relationships with confident girl power.

This track in particular lifted me high. The film clip even turned me on.

It was brave and out there, two things I loved to embody in my fave decade of music, the 80s. A time I went from being a Year 8 school girl to professional actress,to university student activist feminist, to first job, moving interstate as a copy writer and radio DJ anouncer in three more states.

The whole 80s I danced, grew changes, went clubbing, and had a ball, buying what I wanted And living on my on my own with a string of boyfriends attached for extra fun.

Oh, the freedom I had.

I remember running to the dance floor when the Weather Girls came on.

Thanks for the memories, Jay. X

Therese, yes—partly, I can relate. The '80s are my favorite era for pop music too. Back when I was studying in Göttingen, I used to DJ at the women’s and lesbian center. We didn’t just play the music—we shouted it, until the walls shook with the reverberation. Glad it invoke happy memories for you.
