I love this poem. It stirs hope and quiet defiance, sharing the warmth from the embers of your heart and the community you are building. Thank you for sharing
Thank you Lady Libertea for reading in commenting. I am glad this poem found resonance within you and to reflect back to me the meaning I hoped to express with it.
Such a powerful poem with layers of meaning. I can feel your fervent desire to burn all those man-made social structures that serve to disempower us and to reinforce the power of those at the top of the hierarchy. Yet the scaffolding of those structures remain, like ashes. And yet you rise, like the Phoenix. This repetition of the theme of burning and dealing with the ashes and rising is synonymous with the cycle of life and history. I love how this neither downplay the perpetual obstacles we humans are up against throughout history, nor the agency and intrinsic power we carry within us to direct our lives and make changes in the world. Bravo!

Namaste Lily, I thank you for this and for reflecting back to me the message I wanted to convey in this poem. I am touched. Merci Beaucoup.
Je t'en pries. Namaste 🙏
The repetition of "the ember remembers" and "I burned them" throughout is so powerful. A chant of existence, of refusing to die out.
Rey, that was what I hope to convey with it. Thank you for seeing me. I appreciate you
Love it. Refusing to extinguish our Self is the most powerful stance we can take!
In my case the Self was gone, Marisa. I am indeed rising from it's ashes as I shared in this and the next two essays following this: https://wildlionessespride.substack.com/p/when-healing-means-losing-everything?r=1sss7q
I left you a comment on that post. 😢Please know I’m rooting for you and wish you peace & healing through this trying time.
You are an inspiration. Thank you!!!
Thank you Michelle, glad my poetry resonated.
